The biggest mistake we make in the shower: Almost no one knows the correct order!

A study conducted by UK-based shower gel brand Original Source on 2,000 people revealed that only 14% of individuals follow the scientifically correct cleaning order when showering. The research emphasized that showering in the wrong order can have negative effects on skin and hair health.
According to experts, the ideal order to follow when cleansing your body is as follows:
Shampoo:
The first step in the shower should be to cleanse the scalp of oil and dirt with shampoo. This will help cleanse the scalp and increase the effectiveness of subsequent products.
Hair conditioner:
Conditioner applied after shampoo softens the hair strands. It is recommended to switch to body cleansing during the waiting period.
Body Cleansing (Shower Gel / Soap):
After completely removing hair care products, skin cleansing should begin. This will prevent any residue that may transfer from the hair to the skin.
Shaving or Skin Care:
It is stated that the healthiest choice is to perform procedures such as shaving or peeling towards the end of the shower, when the pores are open.
Among the 2,000 people who participated in the study, only 14% stated that they applied the correct order recommended by science, starting with shampoo, then conditioner and finally shower gel. 44% of the participants stated that they started with shower gel, then continued with shampoo and conditioner. According to experts, this preference is among the riskiest orders in terms of cleanliness. While 22% said that they completed their shower routine with shampoo, then shower gel and finally conditioner, 8% said that they started with conditioner and followed the order of shampoo and shower gel. 5% of the other participants stated that they followed the order of conditioner, shower gel, shampoo, and 7% adopted a shower routine of shower gel, conditioner, shampoo. This data revealed that the vast majority of people act without knowing the recommended order in terms of cleanliness and skin health when taking a shower.
Incorrect shower order can be a threat to skin health. Especially the contact of hair conditioner residues with the body can clog pores and cause skin problems such as acne, irritation and eczema. It is also stated that oil and product residues from the hair mix with shower gel and reduce the cleaning effect. Speaking on the subject, expert Alice Plimmer stated that shower routines should be planned consciously, not haphazardly. “The correct order is not only important for hygiene, but also for skin and hair health,” she said.
