Rejection of Hüseyin Baş's request to visit İmamoğlu and Altaylı

According to a statement from the Independent Turkey Party, Chairman Hüseyin Baş applied to the Ministry of Justice twice for visitation permission. When the first request went unanswered, he applied a second time. This application was rejected by Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç. BTP Chairman Hüseyin Baş reposted the party's statement with the note, "Perhaps our request was not submitted due to bureaucracy. Let's submit it here. For the attention of Minister Yılmaz Tunç."
"NO WRITTEN RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED"
The statement noted the following:
"We have applied to the Ministry of Justice with our petition dated July 14, 2025, for permission for our Party Chairman Hüseyin Baş to visit the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is imprisoned in the Istanbul Marmara Penal Institution (Silivri Prison), and the journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is imprisoned in the same prison, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, or if today is not convenient, on one of the days of July 23, 24, or 25, 2025.
After the deadline for our visits was reached but permission for our request was not granted, we submitted a second petition to the Ministry on July 24, 2025, updating the visit dates and reiterating our request for our General President to be allowed to visit the aforementioned detainees in the relevant prisons on behalf of our party.
We have repeatedly inquired about the status of our request, both through visits and phone calls to the Ministry of Justice, and have been reminded of our expectation of permission. During our meetings, we have been informed that our request has been submitted to the Minister of Justice for approval, but no decision has yet been made. As of 5:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025, our request for permission has not been granted, and no written response has been received from the Ministry of Justice.
