- Update:With regular meetings, feedback from the field is directly transferred to cabinet members. Ministers benefit from being able to respond to problems more quickly.
EMRAH ÖZCAN - After the implementation of the Presidential Government System in 2018, the difficulties experienced by AKP deputies in reaching cabinet members were frequently brought to the agenda and became the subject of criticism. This problem, which continued especially until the 2023 elections, was recently resolved with the deputies-ministers consultation meetings held at the AKP Headquarters. The AKP has made these meetings, which it initiated in order to resolve the demands and problems of the people more quickly, regular. In these meetings, deputies have the opportunity to convey feedback from citizens in the field directly to cabinet members, while ministers take these demands into account in their policy-making processes and develop more effective solutions.
SCOPE WILL BE EXPANDEDAccording to information obtained from AKP sources, both MPs and ministers are quite pleased with these consultations. MPs state that they are able to convey the people’s voice to the cabinet more easily, while ministers state that they are experiencing the advantage of being able to respond to problems more quickly. The party management emphasizes that these meetings not only strengthen communication channels, but also further strengthen the AKP’s ties with the people. This new approach is interpreted as a concrete step against the AKP’s internal dynamics and the opposition’s criticism of “inaccessibility.” It is planned that the consultations will continue in the upcoming period and their scope will be expanded.
These meetings have recently found positive resonance both within the party and with the public, further strengthening the party's ties with the public ahead of the 2028 elections. The meetings are expected to continue in different formats and with wider participation in the future.
