Bribery footage emerged in Şile Municipality investigation

The Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an operation against the Şile Municipality on July 10, charging it with "establishing a criminal organization," "extortion," " bribery ," and " tender rigging ." Six people, including Şile Mayor Özgür Kabadayı, were detained in the operation.

Investigations conducted based on witness testimonies revealed that suspects, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Legal Affairs Officer within the municipality, systematically solicited and received bribes using phrases such as "mayor's request," "help," and similar terms. During the operation, Şile Municipality Legal Affairs Attorney A.Ş. was arrested red-handed after accepting € 20,000 in bribes for the issuance of building permits.

'I WANT TO ANSWER AT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE'

In his statement, Lawyer A. Ş. said, "I signed a legal consultancy contract with the Şile Municipality in March 2025. As the interlocutor, I am responsible for answering legal questions regarding the Municipal Police Department, Zoning Department, Real Estate Department, and Planning Department. Regarding bribery, I would like to answer this question at the prosecutor's office, citing Article 58 of the Attorneys' Law."

'I AM NOT THE PERSON CALLED PRESIDENT'

Şile Mayor Özgür Kabadayı, who testified as a suspect, said, "When I took office, I delegated authority to my deputies. I have no knowledge of any irregularities. I am not the person referred to as mayor in some sections of the statements. The Deputy Mayor is TTÖ."
