Akın Güre: Even if they try every way to silence the opposition, the result will not change
Hadn't what was done to politicians been done to democratic rights struggles and actions to make their voices heard before? Hadn't it been done to unions on strike, to peasants protecting their land, to environmentalists who said stop to the massacre of nature?
On the bright side, in this way, a meeting took place on the same line as the arrested politician in the struggle for rights in which the people have been left alone for years. What I mean is that, in a way we are not used to seeing, the traditional politics in the CHP has now also become responsible for staying on a democratic axis that raises social expectations higher.
Therefore, efforts to disrupt the CHP and paralyze the party will not help, and the courage to say “if you want to play the game, you have to follow the rules” to those who whine in the political arena will increasingly prevail. This means that the opposition will be more effective in using effective democratic means.
If those who understand that they will not be elected again and try to postpone this result by illegal means continue to make mistakes, they will eventually run into the sagacity of society and will not be able to avoid defeat. Even if they try every way to silence the opposition, the result will not change.
Maybe it will be time to close down television channels. They will go even further and impose new obstacles on journalists, but they will not succeed.
This country is a place where honorable people who deserve to live freely in a state of law live. Historical experiences have shown that as people who have always managed to come together on ancient traditions in these lands, this society is capable of overcoming difficult times. What is important is that all opposition gathers around such common sense, first of all, in favor of democracy.
