A phone worth thousands of lira suddenly burst into flames

Batuhan Sürmeli, who works in the automotive audio and video systems business in Ümraniye, was working when his iPhone 14 Pro Max suddenly caught fire in his pocket. When the phone caught fire, Sürmeli panicked, pulling it out of his pocket and throwing it to the ground. Sürmeli suffered minor burns on his leg, and the phone, estimated to have caught fire in the battery compartment, was reduced to a ball of flames and burned to ashes. The incident was captured on security camera footage.

Sürmeli explained that his phone suddenly caught fire in his pocket, saying, "I work in audio, and while I was dismantling my friend's car, the phone in my pocket suddenly burst into flames as I opened the door and leaned in. It happened out of the blue. When the phone started burning in my pocket, I immediately took it out and threw it on the ground. I have camera footage of the incident. I still have the phone in my hand, and the battery compartment is completely burned to ashes. It caught fire directly from the battery, emitting thick white smoke and a very foul odor."

He bought it for thousands of liras, it turned into ashes

Sürmeli, who said he bought the phone a year and a half ago for approximately 80,000 lira, said, "I got a burn on my leg because it was in my pocket. This is new. I wrote to the authorized service center, but I haven't received a response yet. There's no compensation for this. We're paying for the phone, but this is what we're experiencing. We want a replacement or compensation for material and moral damages. I bought this phone a year and a half ago for approximately 80,000 lira."
