Prime Minister says Israel has no plan to annex enclave
The Israeli government has supported Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to occupy Gaza City and defeat the Palestinian Hamas movement, The Times of Israel reports.
The presented plan outlines five principles for ending the war, including disarming Hamas, returning all 50 Jewish hostages, and demilitarizing the enclave. In addition, Israel intends to gain control over the security of the Gaza Strip and seek the creation of a third alternative government, in addition to Hamas and the Palestinian National Authority.
Experts believe that such a decision could mean the occupation of the entire Gaza Strip by the Israel Defense Forces.
Netanyahu said Thursday that Israel will not annex the Gaza Strip to rule it, but wants to create a security zone next to the Jewish state.
