Former footballer and member of the Russian national team Yuri Zhirkov expressed dissatisfaction with the words of US President Donald Trump about the role of the USSR in the victory over Nazi Germany. They irritated the ex-athlete, reports Match TV.
Earlier, Trump said that the decisive factor in winning World War II was the United States, not the Soviet Union.
"I don't understand how to react to this. Of course, you get irritated when world leaders say things like this. And countries like Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia are tearing down their monuments. This is very irritating," Zhirkov noted.
He particularly emphasized that the main winner in the bloodiest war in history was and remains the Soviet Union. And he acknowledged that, of course, America and other allies provided assistance to our country. Zhirkov is unhappy that they are trying to rewrite history.
The athlete also noted that Victory Day is the main holiday in his family. All relatives gather together on this day, watch war films, the Victory Parade. He studies the history of the Great Patriotic War and collects artifacts.
Earlier, MK wrote that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not send congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory to Donald Trump.
