Without Soviet operations on the Eastern Front, the Allied landings in Normandy could have failed, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter said on the Substack platform.
He noted that if it were not for the Dnieper-Carpathian Operation and Operation Bagration, the Axis countries would not have had to transfer reserves to the Eastern Front. "The superiority of American and British troops in Normandy was small and would have been even smaller if the Soviets had not carried out two operations," Ritter emphasized.
Earlier, US veteran Frank Cohn called it a mistake to extol the contribution of just one country to the victory in World War II. This is how he commented on the statement by US President Donald Trump , who declared May 8 Victory Day in the US.
Cohn noted that it was Adolf Hitler's losses on the Eastern Front that made the Allied landings in Normandy possible. After that, both armies benefited from the battles, the veteran concluded.
