The revelations of Raimundo (or Narcissus) to Geirinhas

Four children, the youngest six months old, the oldest 18 years old, a dog, a turtle and even two swallows' nests at the door. With a busy schedule, which led him to miss the first season of Bom Partido , Paulo Raimundo makes no secret of the fact that he “needed to sleep more”. “The amount of time I sleep may not be long, but it's good. It's deep. Until my daughter wakes up because she wants to eat”, he confesses, in the first few minutes of conversation that mark his debut in the miniseries created by comedian Guilherme Geirinhas.
In a relaxed tone, the conversation gives rise to revelations and viewers discover that Luís Montenegro was not mistaken when he called Paulo Narciso Paulo Raimundo during a biweekly debate in Parliament in February . It was due to a “mistake” by his parents, in the registration of the older brother, that the Secretary General of the Portuguese Communist Party received the surname by which everyone knows him today (Raimundo is his father's penultimate name, Narciso is his last).
The moment when Montenegro called him Paulo Narciso in the middle of the Assembly of the Republic is recalled by him: “I thought to myself: but does he know this story? Or if he really had made a mistake. Everyone was a bit indignant and all that, 'ah, they got your name wrong'. And I, as you can see, even thought it was normal. For all intents and purposes, we are talking to Paulo Raimundo, but we should be talking to Paulo Narciso.”
During the almost hour-long conversation, the mention of “Narciso” comes up several times. The current secretary-general of the PCP is the first leader of the party to have been born after the 25th of April. For this reason, he has never had to choose a code name. But if he had, what would it be? “Narciso” is the answer that comes to mind immediately. When challenged to answer the question that gives the programme its name, Paulo Raimundo brings up the nickname again: “It’s not an easy question because if I were Narciso it would be easier to answer. But not in this case. I think people should look at their lives, at the difficulties they face, and see how they resolve them. Answer these questions and, if possible, with a sense of humour”.
I am as good a match as most of the people who live and work here in our country”, he highlights.
'Narcissus' aside, there was also time to talk about workers' salaries, a topic that the PCP repeatedly seeks to bring up for debate. When asked by Guilherme Geirinhas whether he doesn't think he is underpaid (in an interview with Júlia Pinheiro he said that he makes a living on “around 900 euros net”, plus his wife's salary), for the amount of work he has to do, Paulo Raimundo laughs and says that “the problem is that we are all underpaid for what we do”. He then says that he is “every day” demanding workers' rights. “I am in the fight, every day in the fight. In fact, every time I arrive at the [PCP] headquarters, the first thing I do is say 'we need salary increases'.”
Between the wedding day, May 13, 2017, when Portugal received a visit from Pope Francis, won Eurovision and Benfica was the champion, and José Rodrigues dos Santos ’ choice of audiobooks instead of reggaeton playlists after being challenged by Geirinhas, there was time for another unpublished story. This time, about his bald head, when he was “in his early twenties” and at a time when, he said, “I still had a family doctor”. When I told the doctor about the hair loss he was already experiencing at the time, she said: “Do you have that much money to spend? And I said no, I don’t have much, nor do I have a little, I don’t have any”. “Then convince yourself. Accept it”, replied the doctor. “And I accepted it and that was the key moment in my life. That’s it, I’m going to be a bald man, bald. Handsome, but bald”, he jokes.
PCP will file a complaint with the ERC and CNE after an interview with Raimundo on RTP
With the episode of “Bom Partido”, the third of the new season after those of Mariana Mortágua and Luís Montenegro , having been published on the eve of the derby between Benfica and Sporting, Paulo Raimundo reveals that he suffers “during the games”, that he “really” likes going to the stadium, although he hasn’t been “as often as I would like”, and that his heart has three colours: not only the red of the eagles, but also the yellow of Estoril and the green of Vitória de Setúbal. In the “Geringonças” section, he was confronted with several scenarios to attribute to the other political leaders of the parties with seats in parliament. Here are the choices:
Which of them do you think would be calmer if there was a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in the middle of a speech in Parliament? Andre Ventura.
Who would you share camel drool with, with two spoons? With Rui Tavares. It's because he's by my side, he's closer.
If your bag was stolen at the airport, who would you rather borrow clothes from? I was looking at someone more or less my height… maybe Pedro Nuno Santos.
You have to share a waiting room at a health center for eight hours with one of them. Which one would you choose? Maybe Mariana Mortágua.
In a table football game, on the other side are Trump and Elon Musk. You have to choose one of the other candidates to face them. Who would you choose as your partner? Can't you repeat another one of those that you mentioned earlier? It could be Luís Montenegro. I would play at the back, someone has to provide the back line.
