Gerdau is the only steel producer among the 100 most innovative companies in the use of IT in Brazil, according to a ranking produced by IT Forum. The company ranked 36th in the annual survey, which celebrates initiatives that highlight the leading role of technology in the innovation process of Brazilian companies.

The ranking is defined based on the score of companies that present the best combination of processes and practices in the use of tools aimed at technological transformation.
The case submitted by Gerdau was about the AI Innovation Center, a sub-area of the Global Data&AI team , responsible for promoting intensive innovation in artificial intelligence, with a focus on the evaluation and training of techniques, capabilities, partners and solutions.
The projects developed aim to carry out rapid tests to validate hypotheses and demonstrate business value through AI solutions. To this end, an incubation is carried out, with immersion in the business challenge, in order to outline and execute the minimum actions necessary to create a solution in up to 45 days and evaluate the results .
If approved, these projects can be transformed into process optimization services for the company itself , as well as for customers and suppliers.
Created in 2024, the AI Innovation Center has already been responsible for creating and improving processes in several areas of the company, such as supply chain, industrial operations, control and management of scrap stocks, among others.
One example is the system for reading technical standards using artificial intelligence, developed for Gerdau clients. The advantages provided by this type of model include personalization, greater efficiency and precision , as well as continuous learning, in addition to being able to identify greater flexibility for layout adjustments and a more simplified data architecture.
“Gerdau is becoming more tech-powered , integrating digital and technological innovations into its processes. The AI Innovation Center is an important initiative to develop solutions for customers, recognizing the efforts of more than 30,000 employees,” highlights Gerdau’s IT and Digital Director, Gustavo França.
“The next step for the AI Center is to expand the use of AI to other areas of business and operations , with new partnerships in tech, in addition to amplifying AI literacy and culture, ensuring that AI solutions continue to add value to Gerdau's employees and customers,” concludes Gerdau's global Data & AI leader, Rodrigo Silveira.
