Bill to ban planned obsolescence of products advances in the Chamber

The Industry, Commerce and Services Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that prohibits planned obsolescence . This is the practice of introducing features into products that cause the reduction of its useful life .
The text, under the reporting of Kim Kataguiri (União-SP), inserts the measure into the Consumer Protection Code, making planned obsolescence an abusive practice.
The congressman argued that this is a global concern and stated that several countries are looking for ways to combat it. “This practice, in addition to being harmful to consumers, undermines confidence in the industry and harms the environment.”
The next step is the analysis of the text by the Consumer Protection Committee and, subsequently, by the Constitution and Justice Committee.
As it is being processed conclusively, the project will not have to go through the plenary, unless at least 52 deputies present a request for this.
If the Chamber gives its approval, the matter will reach the Senate.
