Motta's message to the Workers' Party and the PL after the Chamber accelerated amnesty for coup plotters

Seconds after proclaiming the urgent approval of a bill to amnesty the coup plotters of January 8, 2023, on the evening of this Wednesday 17th, the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), asked for the attention of deputies from the PT and PL and gave a brief speech.
In his speech, he stated that Brazil needs “pacification” and that he does not intend to rewrite the past, but to “allow the present to be reconciled and the future to be built on the basis of dialogue and respect.”
"There are urgent issues ahead, and the country needs to move forward," he continued. "We have different views and divergent interests in the House on the events January 8, 2023. It is in the plenary that ideas clash and democracy pulses with full force.”
Motta added that he will appoint a rapporteur to "arrive as quickly as possible at a substitute text that finds the support of a broad majority of the House."
"I want to reaffirm the message that guides our administration: Brazil needs peace. It is up to the plenary, sovereign, to decide."
There were 311 votes in favor of the urgency request and 163 against.
