The minister will travel to the Algarve today to participate in several events promoted by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), with a view to taking stock of the situation of water resources in the region and defining measures and recommendations for the future.

In the morning, Maria da Graça Carvalho will participate in the Regional Subcommittee of the Southern Zone - Reservoir Management Commission, where, in addition to analyzing the current surface and groundwater availability and evaluating the measures defined in the last meeting of the regional subcommittee, she will preside over the signing ceremony of the protocol “Water that Unites - Studies for the evaluation of the water potential in the region 's river basins, namely in the Alportel river basin”, between the APA and the Association of Beneficiaries of the Sotavento Irrigation Plan.

These studies correspond to a measure of the Algarve Regional Water Efficiency Plan, essential to reinforce the region's water security, but also constitute an important contribution to reducing the risk of flooding in the city of Tavira, within the scope of the Measures Program of the Flood Risk Management Plan (PGRI) of RH8 — Ribeiras do Algarve .

At the end of the meeting, which will take place in the Auditorium of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Algarve) at 12:10 pm, the Minister of Environment and Energy will make statements to journalists.

At 3:00 pm, at Espaço Sal'Mare, on Praia de Faro, the minister will make statements to the media about the assessment of the 2025 bathing season and will present the provisions for managing and protecting the coast.

At 4:00 pm, there will be a visit to Fuzeta Island, where a sediment reinforcement intervention was carried out on the beach for this bathing season, with another larger reinforcement action scheduled in collaboration with the General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Services.
