At the end of the route, at Pampilhosa station, Pinto Luz told journalists that the certification process is long and “will certainly take a few months”. Therefore, he did not give any date for its reopening.

The Beira Alta Line closed in April 2022 to undergo modernization works, for an expected period of nine months.

In November 2024, the section between Guarda and Celorico da Beira reopened, while the section between Celorico da Beira and Mangualde ended up opening for commercial service on April 6.

According to Pinto Luz, the strategy that the Government outlined last year with Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), of partially opening each of the sections, “is a winning strategy”, because it was “allowing citizens to use this line”.

He highlighted to journalists that the investment in a project “of this magnitude and complexity” was less than 675 million euros, financed at almost 50% with community funds.

“This work is of the utmost importance, namely the Mealhada Concordance. We cannot work on highways and railways separately from the national ports policy and logistics policy,” he stated.

For the minister, investment in railways should be a priority, since “Portugal is well ahead of the European average in terms of roads, but is far behind the European average in terms of railways”.
