Sebrae publishes manifesto on small businesses in the climate agenda

Sebrae President Décio Lima officially delivered the institution's position on the climate agenda to Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, president of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP30. The delivery took place at the institution's national headquarters this Thursday (15). During the meeting, Décio explained Sebrae's main lines of action in the inclusion of micro and small businesses in COP30.

Sebrae, as an entity, embraces what is naturally our responsibility. We cannot imagine a more sustainable Brazil that does not include the small economy as a concept that is spread throughout the country. We will have the opportunity to show that without small businesses the climate transition will not be complete.

For the first time in the history of the Conference, there will be a space within the event aimed at small entrepreneurs, the e-Zone . According to the ambassador, Sebrae's support will be essential to demonstrate the importance of small businesses in the transition to a sustainable economy.

“This is an agenda that is dominating the international discussion and I think it is the first time that an international agenda has been established and very well structured. It is an international agenda that fits, particularly, with the image that Brazil wants for its future”, analyzed André.

Climate Manifesto

In addition to supporting the implementation of COP30 in Belém (PA), Sebrae has established a structural and permanent commitment to the climate and sustainability agenda. The entity works with five strategic axes to disseminate social and environmental sustainability through small businesses:

  1. Innovation for a low carbon economy and bioeconomy;
  2. Agriculture and food security;
  3. Energy transition, industrial processes and production chain;
  4. Territorial climate resilience and Circular Economy;
  5. Female, diverse and inclusive entrepreneurship.

This commitment reaches small businesses in three ways. The first is literacy, through training to adapt them to environmental demands. Innovation is another way, to stimulate small businesses and startups aligned with ESG practices.

Finally, Sebrae strengthens its advocacy role with public policy makers at various levels of governance . This ensures a business environment that is favorable to small businesses, capable of promoting economic prosperity, environmental conservation and social justice.

“The more we talk, the more important doors open that we will develop over time. We have also seen how much we can work together in the joint effort and this extraordinary reach that you have will be a fantastic tool for all of Brazil to feel involved with the COP,” André pointed out.
