US tariff agreements to be released today; BRICS-aligned countries to get 10% surcharge

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday night, the 6th, that the tariff agreements made by the United States with several countries will be released starting at 1:00 pm (Brasília time) this Monday, the 7th. The Republican also said that countries aligned with the "anti-American policies of BRICS" will pay an additional 10% tariff. According to him, "there will be no exceptions to this rule". The statements were made through Truth Social.

The threat of paying an extra tax to countries in line with the BRICS' 'anti-US' ideals was made during the bloc's summit, which is taking place this week in Rio de Janeiro.

Earlier on Sunday, the bloc's leaders published the Rio de Janeiro Declaration. While the text does not mention the United States by name, it does refer to the country when condemning attacks carried out against Iran and Russia, two full members of the bloc.

BRICS expressed "serious concern" about "deliberate attacks" against "civilian infrastructure", but not only Iranian ones, as Tehran wanted, but also against "peaceful nuclear facilities".

The summit also condemned “the attacks on bridges and railway infrastructure that deliberately targeted civilians in the Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation on 31 May and 1 and 5 June 2025, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including children.”

It is the first time that BRICS has cited specific attacks on Russian territory since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
