European Parliament debates motion of censure against von der Leyen today. Failure is practically guaranteed

The European Parliament (EP) meets this week in plenary session with a debate on a motion of censure presented to the European Commission scheduled for this Monday, with the presence of the leader of the community executive, Ursula von der Leyen.
The motion was presented by 77 right-wing (22) and far-right MEPs , including António Tânger Correia, elected by Chega, and will be voted on Thursday, with its rejection practically assured.
Under the EP's rules of procedure, a motion of censure against the Commission can be tabled by one tenth of the members of Parliament, i.e. 72 MEPs .
MEPs will also debate, over the four days of the plenary session in the French city of Strasbourg, the priorities of the Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union (from July to December), the conclusions of the last European Council – attended by the institution's leader, António Costa, and Ursula von der Leyen – and the future EU-China summit, which takes place this month and is hosted by Beijing.
The next multiannual budgetary framework 2028-2034 is on the agenda , with MEPs defining their priorities ahead of the presentation of the European Commission's proposal.
The economic agenda also includes the adoption of an opinion on Bulgaria's accession to the euro area on 1 January 2026.
In the context of environmental policy, the EP will discuss the EU's preparation for this season of forest fires and drought and the proposal presented this week for a reduction of up to 90% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
In the area of foreign policy, MEPs also have scheduled debates on the situation in the Middle East, trade relations between the EU and the United States, in particular the intention of US President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on exports from the 27, and the human cost of Russia's war against Ukraine.
MEPs will also debate voting on a resolution on the arbitrary detention and torture of Portuguese-Belgian researcher Joseph Figueira Martin in the Central African Republic.
