Public employment increases by 1.3% until March

The number of public administration workers rose 1.3% up to March 31, year-on-year, to 758,889 jobs, a new high in the statistical series that began in 2011, according to data released today by DGAEP.

"On March 31, 2025, employment in the public administration sector stood at 758,889 jobs, marking an increase of 1.3% year-on-year and 0.7% compared to the previous quarter", states the Statistical Summary of Public Employment (SIEP), prepared by the Directorate-General for Public Administration and Employment (DGAEP).

This increase compared to the first quarter of 2024 occurred mainly in central and local administration, with emphasis on the government areas of Education, Science and Innovation and Health, explains DGAEP.

The quarterly evolution was essentially justified by "careers as doctors (+ 1,389 jobs, partly explained by the temporary hiring of doctors who started their internship), senior technicians (+ 1,108) and kindergarten teachers and primary and secondary school teachers (+ 820)".
