The National Social Security Institute (INSS) registered more than 1 million requests for reimbursement of unauthorized discounts made by associative entities on the second day of operation of the consultation system.

The most recent report, with data up to 5 pm this Thursday (15), shows that 1,051,238 insured people formalized the dispute on the Meu INSS platform or via telephone service channel 135.

Another 17,963 reported that the discounts were duly authorized. The institute began notifying about 9 million retirees and pensioners on Tuesday (13) who can now see the discounts made and report whether they were authorized or not. In all, the discounts made by 41 associative entities can be contested.

The Federal Police and the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) are investigating unauthorized deductions from INSS payments. The scheme may have diverted R$6.3 billion between 2019 and 2024. The government still needs to differentiate between irregular and regular deductions during this period.

The scandal led to the resignation of INSS president Alessandro Stefanutto, who had been removed from his post by court order. He denies any wrongdoing and says he acted in accordance with the recommendations of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU). Under pressure, Social Security Minister Carlos Lupi, who appointed Stefanutto to the post, resigned earlier this month.
