Electric vehicle charging increases 48% in August

During the month of August, 153,000 different users carried out 873,000 charging operations , a 48% increase compared to the same month last year, while the number of users using the national grid increased by 54% . MOBI.E also reports that 20.3 GWh of energy was extracted from the grid during this period, representing a 62% increase compared to the previous year.
In addition to the significant increase in the number of charging stations, users, and the amount of energy stored in batteries, the entity that manages the charging station network highlights the fact that Friday is the day when electric vehicle drivers visit charging stations the most , with an average of over 30,000 operations. By relying solely on electricity to propel themselves, battery-powered vehicles allowed for the emission of 16,300 tons of carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) in August alone , bringing the total for 2025 to already exceed a reduction of 102,000 tons of CO2 . This avoided the consumption of 38 million liters of fuel in the first eight months of the year.
While the number of electric vehicle users has been growing, so has the infrastructure—the available public charging stations. By the end of August, there were already 12,850 chargers distributed across 6,880 charging stations. However, only 2,730 of these chargers are fast or ultra-fast, and the latter—the most necessary for the latest electric vehicles—are a minority.
With this increase in the number of chargers, according to MOBI.E, our country now has 111 for every 100 km of road. And, to make life easier for those who can't recharge their electric vehicles at home or at work, there are now 151 charging points for every 100,000 inhabitants .
