Two parish councils robbed

Over the weekend, two parish councils in the municipality of Chaves were robbed. At the Planalto de Monforte Parish Council, the lock on the front door was broken. Inside, a cabinet was opened using the same method, but other than the damage, nothing was stolen.
"They went through some papers and didn't take anything," except for about 20 euros they found, parish council president Luís Garcia told VTM, acknowledging that the robber or robbers were looking for money, "but we don't usually have money in the parish."
The visit by the stranger's friends took place between Friday and Sunday. "I was at the parish council on Friday and everything was closed. Yesterday when I went back, I saw that the lock cylinder was broken," he explained, later filing a complaint with the GNR.
In the case of the parish council headquarters in the neighboring village of Águas Frias, the robbery occurred from Friday to Saturday. The parish council president noticed the day before yesterday that the front door and another door to a storage room had been forced open. "They took some loose change they found and nothing else, not even the computer equipment that was there," says Rogério Oliveira, who has been mayor of the parish for 12 years and doesn't recall seeing the parish council headquarters being robbed.
In this case too, the situation was reported to the authorities, who were on site and are investigating the incident.
At a time when information is more important than ever, support regional and local journalism. Access to most VTM news is (still) free, but it's not free; journalism costs money and requires investment. This contribution is a way to directly support A Voz de Trás-os-Montes and its journalists.
