Portimão reinforces prevention against the worsening risk of fires

Álvaro Bila, Mayor of Portimão, called an extraordinary meeting of the Municipal Civil Protection Commission (CMPC), held on August 3.

After a technical analysis of the situation in the municipality, based on information from the Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CCOM), the weather forecast and the criteria defined in the Municipal Emergency Plan, CMPC decided not to activate, for the time being, the Municipal Civil Protection Emergency Plan, considering that the conditions for an operational response are assured.

Several preventive and preparedness measures were reinforced:

• Notification of the population, via SMS, under the “Safe Village” and “Safe People” programs
• Pre-positioning of combat assets and mobilization of tracked machines;
• Strengthening surveillance, early detection and awareness-raising actions, activating, among others, the use of Drones
• Preparation of the Municipal Aerodrome as an Alternative Maneuvering Field (CMA) to support air operations;
• Streamlining the operation of Population Concentration and Support Zones (ZCAP) (one is installed at the Judice Fialho school)
• Mobilization of means of transport and logistical support;
• Reinforcement of Civil Protection Agents.

The situation will be permanently monitored by the Operations and Communications Room (SALOC), with the possibility of immediately summoning the CMPC, if the activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan is justified.

The municipality calls on all citizens to be responsible, highlighting the importance of the preventative role that each person can play.

Avoiding risky behavior and scrupulously following recommendations regarding burning, the use of machinery, and movement in forested areas is essential to ensuring the safety of people and property.
