Local government and GNR join forces to help elderly people in vulnerable situations

Assistance for seniors living in vulnerable situations is just a click away, through an electronic device that automatically and immediately connects them to the GNR (National Republican Guard). Once the devices have been identified, beneficiaries have 24-hour access to a remote assistance and monitoring system that allows them to locate and directly contact GNR command.
According to Lobo de Carvalho, commander of the Bragança Republican National Republican Guard (GNR), by activating the device, the user initiates a process "and receives a specialized response on the other end of the line. It allows, for example, to call an emergency number in the event of a fall, or, in the case of a citizen with dementia who goes beyond a previously defined perimeter, the application alerts them of the crossing of that geographic boundary, and an emergency response will be immediately initiated, preventing disappearances," he explains.

At a time when information is more important than ever, support regional and local journalism. Access to most VTM news is (still) free, but it's not free; journalism costs money and requires investment. This contribution is a way to directly support A Voz de Trás-os-Montes and its journalists. Our counterpart is independent and local journalism, but not only that. It means continuing to inform despite all contingencies; we never stop for a single day.
