Nikola Grbić is emotional after his success. The Polish volleyball coach admitted it openly.

A 3-0 victory in the Nations League final over Italy, the reigning world champions, is an incredible result for the Polish national team. The Polish volleyball players claimed gold at the 2025 VNL in stunning style. The Poles didn't drop a single set during the final tournament in China, winning 3-0 against Japan, 3-0 against Brazil, and 3-0 against Italy.
Nikola Grbić after his Nations League success. The Serb couldn't hide his emotion.Since Nikola Grbić took over the Polish national volleyball team, every championship event has ended with a medal for the Polish team. The volleyball team's collection is growing. Early Sunday afternoon (Polish time), the national team won another gold medal – this time in the Nations League.
"I don't think anyone suspected, including me, that we wouldn't lose a single set in this tournament. Against teams like Japan, Brazil, and finally Italy. I'm very proud that every player gave their best, tried their best. I saw it in training and in matches. Like everyone else, they really wanted to give their best. They listened to what I told them," the Polish coach said right after the final.
Coach Grbić also didn't forget about what happened during the last intercontinental VNL tournament, when the Poles played in front of a Polish audience. At the Ergo Arena in Tricity, Poland defeated Iran and France, but also suffered rather unexpected defeats to Cuba and Bulgaria.
"Sure, we had our bad moments. But if everything goes according to plan, if you don't feel any difficulties, you won't learn anything. I think the experience of the matches against Cuba, Iran, or Bulgaria. In that last match, we learned the most. Those are the things that stick. Because you have that experience. When I talk about it, it's one thing, but when a player or a team goes through it, then it's much better, straight from the pitch [...] Now we have a few more players who can help us. We earned it with this tournament, with those experiences," Grbić emphasized.
Additionally, the Polish coach also warned against getting carried away with hype after winning the VNL gold medal. There's room for joy now, but after a short vacation for the volleyball players, it's back to work and preparations for the most important event of 2025.
We're talking about the World Cup, which will be held in the Philippines. Poland will travel there as runners-up in 2022. Back then, Poland lost 3-1 to Italy at the Spodek Arena in Katowice.
Could it be time for another rematch against Italy, this time in a World Cup format?
"We achieved a fantastic result, I'm proud, we are proud, but... Now we have a short break until next Monday, and then we start working on the things we need to improve on. There's a lot of work ahead of us. If we think now that we're fantastic and adequately prepared for the World Cup, that would be the biggest mistake we could make. And that's why, okay, we're fantastic for one day, but we'll get back on the pitch and work even harder because I think we need to play even better," the Polish team's coach concluded in his signature style.
In addition, the Men's Volleyball World Championships in the Philippines are scheduled for September 12-28. Poland will undoubtedly be among the top favorites for the title. Poland won gold at the World Championships relatively recently, in 2018 and 2014. Furthermore, in the 21st century, Polish volleyball players were also runners-up in 2006, symbolically ushering in an era of volleyball success that, as you can see, is still going strong!
