The Minister advises pharmacies: install a bottle dispenser in the parking lot

" The deposit-refund system will be launched in October . Packaging marked with the deposit symbol will gradually appear on shelves. This solution is already in place in many European countries and is proving effective in practice. This supports the circular economy, reduces CO₂ emissions, and limits the amount of abandoned waste around us," said Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Anita Sowińska during the ministry's press conference today (August 14).
Since the issue of pharmacies' participation in this system continues to arouse interest, she also commented on this matter.
"Pharmacies must participate in this system, meaning they must collect a deposit, just like all other collection points, including small shops and vending machines. This is crucial. Because the system must be tight, there are no exceptions in this regard, including pharmacies," she explained.
She added: - However, when it comes to packaging returns, I would like to point out that we are talking only about points of sale above 200 square meters and we are talking about commercial sales, i.e. without facilities, without laboratories, etc.
Sowińska said that there are not many pharmacies in Poland with such an area.
"They are most often located in shopping malls. Therefore, this obligation can be fulfilled by signing an agreement and installing a vending machine for collecting empty containers, for example, in the mall's parking lot. This is certainly possible, which is why no pharmacy will collect empty bottles. I would like to deny this. However, these obligations do exist for pharmacies over 200 square meters, but they can be carried out very efficiently and organizationally," she said.
Posters to hangThe Ministry of Climate and Environment has launched a dedicated website dedicated to the deposit system.
"We're consistently adding new information and downloadable materials. Recently, we've also added posters that can be displayed in stores, housing cooperatives, or local government offices. We want information about the deposit system to reach as wide an audience as possible," she emphasized.
The Ministry of Climate and Environment is also preparing a media campaign: - We will launch it in the national media in September, but the main part of our media campaign will begin in October, when the system will be launched - she added.
