Donald Trump reacts to Dmitry Medvedev's comments. He issued an order to the crews of two nuclear-powered submarines.
US President Donald Trump posted on social media addressing statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The American leader announced that he had "ordered the deployment of two nuclear-powered submarines to the appropriate areas," explaining that he made this decision "in case these reckless and inflammatory statements prove to be more than just words."
Donald Trump Deploys Nuclear-Powered Ships "Based on Medvedev's Provocative Statements""Based on the highly provocative statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, currently serving as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered the deployment of two nuclear-powered submarines in the appropriate areas," US President Donald Trump said in a post published on his website Truth Social.
As the American leader emphasized, his action is "preventative in nature." "In case these reckless and inflammatory statements turn out to be more than just words," he pointed out. "Words matter and often lead to unintended consequences. I hope that will not be the case here. Thank you for your attention to this matter," the politician noted.
TASS asked the United Nations (UN) about Donald Trump's decision. However, the UN declined to comment. "There is no comment yet regarding Trump's statement regarding the deployment of nuclear-powered submarines," the UN press service reported.
Trump-Medvedev Exchange: "Every New Ultimatum Is a Threat and a Step Toward War"Earlier, Donald Trump and Dmitry Medvedev had an online exchange. It began with a post by the former Russian president on the X platform, in which he stated that Trump was "playing a game of ultimatums" with Russia. This was a reference to Trump's statements, which first—on July 14—gave Russia 50 days to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine, and then, on July 28, shortened this time to "10-12 days" (a day later, he said Russia had 10 days—until August 8). Trump emphasized his disappointment with Vladimir Putin and added that he "thinks he already knows what's going to happen." According to Trump, Putin intends to continue the war.
"He should remember two things," Medvedev continued. He added, "Russia is not Israel, nor is it even Iran." "Every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don't follow the path of Sleepy Joe (referring to former US President Joe Biden – ed.)," he concluded.
Trump responded to Medvedev's tweet. He wrote on his Truth Social website that he "doesn't care what India does with Russia." "Their dead economies can go together, I don't care. We don't do much business with India, their tariffs are high, among the highest in the world. Similarly, Russia and the US do almost no business together. Let it stay that way, and tell Medvedev, the fallen former president of Russia who thinks he's still president, to watch his words. He's treading on very dangerous territory," he added.
On July 30, Trump announced that the US would impose 25% tariffs on India starting August 1. He also recalled that India has always purchased most of its military equipment from Russia and, "along with China, is the largest recipient of Russian energy resources." Therefore, Trump explained, India will be punished for such policies. Trump also called BRICS, an international organization whose members include India, China, and Russia, a "group of anti-American states" whose goal is to "attack the dollar."
Medvedev responded to Trump's post on Truth Social on Telegram. "If the words of the former Russian president provoke such a nervous reaction from the powerful president of the United States himself, it means that Russia is right about everything and will continue to follow its own path," the former Russian president wrote.
Medvedev added that in the context of "dead economies" Trump should be reminded of "his favorite zombie movies."
Since the beginning of the war, Dmitry Medvedev has repeatedly attacked Western countries on his social media channels for their support for Ukraine and threatened them with the outbreak of World War III, in which nuclear weapons would be used if the conflict with Russia escalated. Medvedev, a former president and prime minister of Russia, currently serves as deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
