Karol Nawrocki took the oath on Wednesday before the National Assembly and took office as President of the Republic of Poland.

In his first address, he said he opposed illegal immigration, the introduction of the euro in Poland, and raising the retirement age. He also announced a legislative initiative regarding the Central Communication Port.

Reuters points out that Poland will face a continuation of the political impasse between the government and the president that lasted until December 2023.

"Karol Nawrocki, a conservative historian and supporter of Donald Trump's MAGA movement , was sworn in as president of Poland on Wednesday, igniting a conflict with the centrist government and potentially chilling relations with Ukraine," Reuters reported. "The election victory of Nawrocki, who was supported by the nationalist opposition party Law and Justice (PiS), dealt a blow to Prime Minister Donald Tusk's hopes of solidifying the pro-European course he has set for the bloc's largest eastern member and caused his government to struggle in the polls," the report read.

The Politico website highlighted the confusion caused by reports about Karol Nawrocki's controversial past during the election campaign.

"Karol Nawrocki, a historian and amateur boxer associated with U.S. President Donald Trump, will be sworn in as president of Poland on Wednesday amid controversy over his past hooliganism related to football and a real estate deal that sparked a criminal investigation," Politico reports. "The controversies range from his bizarre use of the crime novelist's image to promote his own praise to much more serious accusations of gangster ties and prostitution at a luxury hotel on the Baltic Sea."

"A nationalist outsider takes office as head of state, pitting two very different politicians with two distinct visions of Poland against each other," Bloomberg reported. "Backed by Law and Justice, the party Tusk ousted from power, Nawrocki is expected to use his ability to block legislation. Although the president's role is largely ceremonial, Tusk's coalition lacks a sufficient majority in parliament to override vetoes on issues like abortion rights and measures to address the budget deficit."

The German Deutsche Welle points out that Nawrocki's victory in the June presidential elections in Poland was "insignificant".

France24, quoting the AFP agency, wrote that Nawrocki won the elections by campaigning "Poland first, Poles first."

"Although he promised continued Polish support for neighboring Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion, he condemned benefits for war refugees. In an April election campaign video, he said that social benefits would primarily benefit Poles and that Polish citizens must have priority in queues for doctors and clinics," France24 emphasized.

"Karol Nawrocki wasn't destined to rise so high and so quickly," writes the daily "Le Figaro." According to the French newspaper, Nawrocki won the election not because of his innate abilities, but because of the narrative of the world with which he identifies.

Nawrocki will continue Duda's Central European course

The Czech daily "Hospodarzske noviny" predicts daily clashes between the new President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, and the government of Donald Tusk.

"The two-force struggle on the Polish political scene, which has been ongoing for twenty years, has a new face," wrote Martin Ehl, an expert on Polish affairs, in a commentary. In his opinion, the "historian, boxer, and nationalist" Nawrocki will engage in daily, fierce political battles with Tusk's government, and his assumption of office symbolically ushers in the right's return to power in the parliamentary elections two years from now.

Ehl believes that Nawrocki will show greater interest in Central Europe than Tusk's government . Alongside transatlantic relations, it will be one of his priorities, and he will draw on the Three Seas Initiative of his predecessor, Andrzej Duda.

Filip Harzer from the Seznamzpravy.cz portal also highlighted international issues in the new Polish president's plans. " US President Donald Trump will certainly find an ally in him , having already welcomed Nawrocki to the White House in May of this year and supported him in his election campaign," the columnist wrote. He also noted that Nawrocki's team is seeking another visit to Trump during the UN General Assembly. Harzer added that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was pleased with Nawrocki's election victory.

"Unlike Orbán and Trump, Nawrocki—like most Polish politicians—takes a tough stance against Putin's Russia, which he describes as imperialist regardless of the era. He supports sanctions and the isolation of Moscow," Harzer assessed. He also noted that Nawrocki has repeatedly emphasized the need to support Ukraine in a defensive war with Russia. However, according to the website, the new president places greater emphasis on historical wrongs and Polish national interests.
