The frontrunners for the Nobel Peace Prize have been announced. Trump is not among them.

The Norwegian Peace Research Institute (PRIO) announced on Thursday the five entities most likely to win this year's Nobel Peace Prize. US President Donald Trump is not among them, but one of the frontrunners is based in Warsaw.
The organization that, according to PRIO, should receive the highest recognition is the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). This American organization has been fighting for press freedom and safeguarding independent journalism since 1981. For 33 years, it has published reports on media workers who have lost their lives working in some of the world's most dangerous places.
"Never before have so many journalists been killed in a 12-month period as in 2024. Of the 124 victims, 70 percent were covering the war in Gaza. At a time when press freedom is under such threat, an award for CPJ would send a clear signal that peace and democracy are at risk when journalists are prevented from reporting to the world," PRIO Director Nina Graeger said in a statement.
Sudan's Emergency Response Centers (SERR) provide humanitarian assistance to 13 million people affected by the civil war that has raged since 2023. For PRIO, awarding this year's Nobel Peace Prize to SERR would demonstrate the crucial importance of access to life-saving assistance in times of war and the role of ordinary citizens in serving humanity in times of hardship.
The Warsaw-based OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) was named as the third entity whose work, according to PRIO, is particularly deserving of this year's Nobel Peace Prize. ODIHR observers monitor compliance with democratic standards, support the implementation of these standards, and advise legislative institutions on the development of regulations governing elections.
"Pressure on democracy is mounting worldwide, and illiberal and authoritarian movements are gaining strength. More people live in autocracies around the world today than a decade ago. Since 1982, ODIHR has conducted 125 election observations, promoting human rights, alleviating human suffering, and contributing to democratic conflict resolution," Graeger said.
The list also includes the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) , which has been addressing the root causes of conflict worldwide for 110 years. PRIO noted that this institution played a significant role in the founding of the UN, lobbied for nuclear disarmament, and 25 years ago led to the adoption of a groundbreaking UN Security Council resolution recognizing the crucial role of women in peacebuilding.
The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court were deemed particularly deserving of this year's award by PRIO. According to the head of the institute, by promoting peace through international law, they are fulfilling the will expressed in Alfred Nobel's will to award peace congresses. Thanks to their multilateral cooperation, the ICJ and ICC have made special efforts over the past year to hold accountable those who violate international law.
The winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on October 10 at the headquarters of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The list of actual nominees and voting records will remain secret for 50 years after the awarding of the prize.
