Hungary is breaking away from EU sanctions on Russian oil. It will import it through a new pipeline.

Hungary refuses to comply with EU sanctions on crude oil imports from Russia. Following the suspension of deliveries by the Ukrainian operator of the Druzhba pipeline, a proposal for a new transit link has been made.
Budapest is conducting talks with the Russian and Serbian sides, which will soon result in the signing of a contract for the construction of a 180-kilometer section of the pipeline from Serbia to the refinery belonging to the fuel and energy company MOL in Szazhalombatla, located 30 kilometers south of Budapest.
We are making progress in talks with the Russian and Serbian sides regarding the construction of a new oil pipeline, wrote Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Platform X.
The Hungarian government plans to complete the investment in the second half of 2027. This route will transport approximately 5 million tons of crude oil from Russia annually.
Transneft will support Serbia in the construction of their section of the pipeline and, under a bilateral agreement, will in the future provide support in technical maintenance of the operation.
