Houston, we have a problem. Alaska Airlines is suspending flights due to a malfunction.

Due to an IT system failure that occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday, US airline Alaska Airlines has suspended all flights until further notice, the carrier announced in a statement. Horizon Air, a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines, has also suspended flights.

"Alaska Airlines has experienced an IT outage that has impacted its operations. We have requested the temporary suspension of Alaska and Horizon Air flights until the issue is resolved," the statement said.

Alaska Airlines, which owns Horizon Air and SkyWest Airlines, is the fifth-largest carrier in North America, with a fleet of over 360 aircraft. (PAP)
