Chinese giant expands its factory in Hungary

BYD has begun expanding its electric bus and truck plant in Komárom, Hungary .
As part of the expansion of the bus and truck factory in Komárom , a modern production facility with an area of 29,000 square meters will be built. Annual production capacity will increase to over a thousand electric buses and trucks.
As part of the project, BYD will create several hundred new jobs in Komárom.
- This expansion is more than just increasing production. It is about shaping a greener and smarter future together, said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD. - We are pleased to support the Hungarian economy while developing sustainable transport solutions across Europe.
BYD has been operating in Hungary since 2005 through its local subsidiaries, and in 2016 significantly expanded its presence by opening a bus and truck factory in Komárom. A modern passenger car production plant is currently being built in Szeged .
The Szeged plant is to be launched this year . During the European presentation of the Dolphin Surf model, Stella Li reminded that this will be the first model to roll off the assembly line of the car factory being built in Hungary. The factory, with a capacity of up to 150 percent of cars per year, is to produce several models (as Stella Li said at a meeting with journalists at the time, BYD is still considering which ones), but the first one is to be the Dolphin.
BYD said it would buy steel sheets from Austrian company Voestalpine . The company said the company was chosen "due to its geographical proximity to the plant in Hungary and the high quality and excellent reputation of Austrian steel."
By the end of 2025, BYD cars will be available in 29 European countries, and the sales network will include more than 1,000 showrooms. The company also recently announced the establishment of a new European headquarters in Budapest and the first dedicated research and development (R&D) center on our continent, also in Hungary.
