A U-turn on new tanks for Poland. It was supposed to be completely different

- Poland plans to increase the size of its army from over 205,000 to 300,000 soldiers, and simultaneously modernize its equipment.
- In the armored forces, alongside the modern Abrams, Leopards and K2s, the older T-72 and PT-91 are still in service.
- Ultimately, about 20 tank battalions are to be created, which means the need to acquire about 1,000 machines – so the army is modifying its capabilities.
Currently, there are over 205,000 soldiers serving in the Polish Army, but this is only a transitional stage. The authorities plan to significantly increase the army's size - ultimately to 300,000 soldiers. This is part of a broader strategy to strengthen national security and increase the combat readiness of the armed forces.
In order to really strengthen military potential, it is necessary not only to increase the number of soldiers, but also to modernize equipment. In Polish armored forces , tanks of Soviet origin are still used alongside more modern machines. Currently, Poland's equipment includes, among others, the following types of tanks:
- T-72,
- PT-91,
- German Leopard 2,
- American M1A1 Abrams,
- American M1A2 Abrams,
- Korean K2 Black Panther.
Experts interviewed by "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna" calculated that around 20 tank battalions are to be created in Poland. To make this happen, around 1,000 machines are needed.
The needs are enormous, and the army is trying to somehow cope with the shortages by changing the structure of armored battalions. The units that currently numbered 58 machines are to move to 44 vehicles - reports "DGP".
According to unofficial information, talks are also to be held with the US to purchase a larger number of Abrams helicopters , rather than machines from South Korea.
