She put herself first. Amanda Anisimova – Iga Świątek's opponent in the Wimbledon final
She's never lacked talent. In 2019, before her 18th birthday, she reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, defeating defending champion Simona Halep. It seemed further success was only a matter of time, but health problems arose, and an even greater blow was the death of her father, who also served as her coach.
Anisimova's parents emigrated from Russia to the United States several years before her birth to provide a better start in life for their second daughter. It was while attending her older sister's training sessions that Amanda fell in love with tennis. Her childhood idols were Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. The official WTA website states that she enjoys music, running, jet skiing, and the beach.
Iga Świątek – Amanda Anisimova. Where to watch the Wimbledon final?"When I took a break, many people told me I'd never reach the top again. It was hard to swallow because I really wanted to return and even win a Grand Slam someday. Just having the opportunity to prove that it's possible to reach that level again if you put yourself first was special," Anisimova says.

She and Iga are the same age. They haven't played each other in their senior careers, and they've faced each other only once in the juniors. In 2016, Świątek won the clay court final of the Junior Federation Cup 6-4, 6-2.
"I remember many coaches saying Iga would be a huge star someday. They were right. She's an incredible player. She's been an inspiration to me," Anisimova admits. "I hope I can show my tennis at a high level on Saturday. I'll just go out on the court and enjoy every moment, trying not to think about what's at stake."
