Firefighters search for a deserter kangaroo.

On Friday, the Rozprza commune (Łódź Voivodeship) reported a missing kangaroo. Local authorities warned residents about the possibility of encountering the marsupial.

A kangaroo escaped from its enclosure. The municipality is issuing a warning.

"Do not approach the animal—despite its friendly appearance, it can behave unpredictably and menacingly," the statement read on social media. Municipal authorities asked residents to contact the authorities if they encounter a kangaroo.

Firefighters from the Rozprza Volunteer Fire Department, among others, were involved in the search for the animal. One of them, in an interview with RMF FM, shared the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the marsupial.

"My friend and I decided we could try flying the drone again. We flew for two hours. When I landed, a kangaroo was standing 10 meters away," said firefighter Arkadiusz Jeż.

Friday's discovery of the kangaroo, however, didn't end the rescue operation – the animal still had to be captured. Initial attempts were unsuccessful due to the terrain in which the operation was taking place – the kangaroo was hidden in the bushes.

Over the weekend, further attempts were made to capture the animal. Thermal imaging equipment was used to locate it.

"We made our first attempt to catch the escapee around 1 p.m. The operation was very difficult, as the animal was trapped in dense undergrowth, bushes, and nettles reaching 1.5 meters in height. Finally, after difficult and prolonged attempts to capture the kangaroo, firefighters managed to secure it on Sunday around 11 p.m. The kangaroo was euthanized by a veterinarian and transported to its owner," said Piotr Skrobek.
