Piast Żmigród with a successful start to the 2025/26 season

Piast Żmigród kicked off the 2025/2026 season in the fourth league with a comfortable victory. On Saturday, August 2nd, the Żmigród team faced GKS Mirków away. The match was played at the pitch in Kiełczów, and the final score was 2-0 in favor of Piast.

GKS Mirków, this year's fourth-division newcomer, dominated the Wrocław district league last season, finishing with an impressive record of 22 wins, 4 draws, and only 4 losses in 30 matches. The Mirków team played five friendly matches before the season began, all of which ended in victory – similar to Piast. The team is coached by Paweł Ulatowski, well-known to Żmigród fans and a former assistant coach at Piast. Two former players from the Żmigród club also play for GKS: Tobiasz Jarczak and Jakub Pancerz.

The hosts started the match better, attacking from the first whistle. However, their attacking play quickly lost momentum, and Piast took the initiative. Just before halftime, Patryk Szymański gave the Żmigród team the lead, converting a pass from Piotr Kotyla. The high-flying pass caught the home defense completely off guard.

The fans saw the second goal immediately after the break. In the 52nd minute, after a well-organized team effort, Władysław Shvets scored. His shot bounced off the crossbar and into the net. Michał Szymczyk, a new Piast player who joined Żmigród before the start of the season, assisted on the goal.

The Żmigród team could have scored further goals, but Szymański and Kacper Oberc, among others, failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Despite this, coach Marcin Foltyn was pleased – the team showed good form, and a clean sheet bodes well for the remainder of the season. Piast will play at home in the second round. On Saturday, August 9th at 5:00 PM, the Żmigród team will host Moto-Jelcz Oława at the Municipal Stadium in Żmigród.

League play isn't everything – the Żmigród club is also consistently strengthening its squad. Several new players have joined the team in recent weeks. One of them is Kacper Pierożak, an 18-year-old midfielder who joined Piast from Parasol Wrocław. He has played for Śląsk Wrocław's junior teams and for senior teams such as Rokita Brzeg Dolny and Ślęza Wrocław, where he made his debut in the third division.

Kamil Aramowicz also returned to Żmigród. The winger played for Piast in the fall round of the 2023/24 season, where he made 13 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Previously, he represented Śląsk Wrocław, where he played in the youth teams, Sokół Marcinkowice, and Polonia Środa Śląska. Last season, he was a key player for Polonia, serving as a key player in the team.

Tomasz Wroński is also a new signing. The 23-year-old midfielder has trained with Piast since the beginning of pre-season and showed his worth in the first friendly matches. He has played for Polonia Środa Śląska for the past two seasons. He has also played for Ślęza Wrocław and Sokół Marcinkowice, and in July, he won a silver medal at the UEFA Regions Cup with the Lower Silesia national team.

Piast's defense has been bolstered by Michał Szymczyk. The 23-year-old took his first steps in football with Pogoń Wleń. He later developed at the Zagłębie Lubin academy. He spent the last six years at Stal Brzeg, with a year off to play for Błyskawica Gać. Photo: Marcin Folmer - MKS Piast Żmigród.
