Around 1,000 people were evacuated at Warsaw Chopin Airport this evening, the Warsaw Fire Department told polsatnews.pl. It was unclear whether there was any threat to passengers. Evacuation is standard procedure when suspicious luggage is found. And that was precisely the reason.
A passenger's luggage was found unattended in one of the halls, presumably the arrivals hall. It had to be checked to ensure it didn't pose a threat. The evacuation caused considerable chaos. The situation for passengers was unsettling, especially since it was unclear when the airport would resume normal operations and passengers would be able to depart.
Finally, before 11 p.m., it was determined that the luggage did not pose a threat. Passengers were allowed to return to the airport, gazeta.pl reported.
