Tennis player Lamens loses to Raducanu in first round Madrid

Suzan Lamens was eliminated in the first round of the Madrid tennis tournament by British Emma Raducanu. The world number 73 lost on the Spanish clay court with 6-7 (4) 4-6 to the former winner of the US Open.
Lamens (25) broke Raducanu in the fifth game, but immediately lost her own serve. The British was then the strongest in the tiebreak. In the second set, both players lost their serve twice, before Raducanu forced a third break.
Lamens reached the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Rouen last week. It was the first time that the Dutch and Raducanu faced each other on the court. The British, who won the US Open in 2021, withdrew from the Billie Jean King Cup meeting with the Netherlands earlier this month. Lamens did play for the Dutch, who lost the decisive doubles match to Great Britain.
