After three years, finally French apology for Liverpool supporters

PARIS (ANP/AFP) - Former French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has apologized for the first time to Liverpool fans for police actions during the 2022 Champions League final in Paris. The match between Liverpool and Real Madrid, three years ago at the Stade de France, started more than half an hour late due to chaos at the entrances. Thousands of fans were crushed and the French police intervened with tear gas.
Darmanin initially blamed Liverpool fans for the disorder, who allegedly tried to enter the stadium without tickets.
He is now backtracking on that. "The actions of the authorities were a failure. It was my fault because I did not check properly what was going on and I was guided by prejudices," the former minister said in an interview on YouTube. "My apologies to the Liverpool fans. They had every right to be angry."
