Striker Miedema has no worries about European Championship after injury

After sustaining a hamstring injury, Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema is not worried about being fit in time for the European Championship in Switzerland in July. "If I'm lucky, I can join the Nations League matches against Germany and Scotland, although not everyone agrees with that yet," the all-time top scorer (28) states in her column in the AD. Those international matches are on 30 May and 3 June.
Miedema sustained the hamstring injury earlier this month in the Nations League match against Austria (1-3 win). It was previously announced that her season at Manchester City was over. The attacker has missed many matches in recent years due to knee injuries.
"I have always been able to motivate myself and never felt sorry for myself, but this time I found it incredibly tough. It did give me motivation that it was immediately said that the European Championship was not in danger. That ensures that I now have a clear goal," says Miedema.
The top scorer of Oranje (97 goals) has a good relationship with national coach Andries Jonker, who has to leave after the European Championship. The KNVB chose Arjan Veurink as his successor. Miedema: "After the decision not to continue with Andries, I think that Arjan was at the top of everyone's list in terms of options. I always had a good relationship with him when he was assistant to Sarina Wiegman at Oranje. I thought he was good tactically and also good in communication, so I think he is the right person."
The Dutch women's football team will start the European Championship in Switzerland on July 5 against Wales. This will be followed by group matches against England and France.
