NS train tickets to become 6 to 9 percent more expensive next year

NS (Dutch Railways) didn't want to pass on the full cost of inflation to passengers. The company believes it can still limit the price increase to 9 percent. "Unfortunately, NS cannot prevent these measures from also impacting train passengers."
The Rover passenger association believes the 2026 train ticket price increase is unjustifiable. According to the association's director, Freek Bos, higher ticket prices "mean another step towards fewer passengers on public transport as a whole."
The government previously paid for this, meaning train ticket prices didn't have to rise in line with inflation. The Dutch Railways (NS) also contributed to this. The final price increase should become clear in the fall.
International train travel is enjoyable and good for the environment. Yet, Europe is struggling to build a comprehensive international train network. The following explains why this is not possible:
