Florida teens record a viral challenge that has raised alarm bells for authorities.

For over a decade, online challenges, typically undertaken by teenagers, have become very popular around the world. Some may include choreography and other simple actions, but others are more risky, even putting the lives and safety of participants at risk.

These types of viral challenges have, in fact, claimed the lives of hundreds of teenagers and children over the years in different parts of the world. This is a challenge often played by young people, which involves repeatedly approaching and kicking the doors of a house, then quickly fleeing before being caught by the property owners . While doing so, the minors are filmed by other accomplices.

The most recent case came to light after authorities in a Riverview, Florida, neighborhood published a video showing a young man with his face covered kicking down the door of a house. Regarding this, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department called on the parents of minors, as they are risking their lives by participating in the 'door kick challenge,' because at any moment someone could respond with a weapon to defend their property. Regarding this, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department issued a statement on Facebook stating: " The 'door kick challenge' is a hoax circulating on social media. #teamHCSO is asking parents to talk to their children about this dangerous trend, which could end in tragedy ."

In this case, fortunately, there were no reports of damage or injuries, but authorities insist on parental controls. Meanwhile, Titania Jordan, director of Marketing and Parent Relations at Bark Technologies—a parental control app—told Fox News Digital that minors who participate in these challenges don't consider the legal or physical consequences of their actions: “ This type of content is going to get likes. It's going to get comments. It's going to be shared. That's going to motivate other kids to try to imitate it, because it's clout; they gain a reputation among their peers for doing this .”

The expert was emphatic that what children are really looking for is immediate validation: “ And the children are going to die . It only takes one armed person to see someone kick down their door , and we'll have another very sad national headline .”

Given the situation, local police insisted that minors be aware that this—at some point—could escalate very quickly. “ This type of situation can escalate very quickly, especially in states where homeowners are legally allowed to defend their homes ,” they noted.
