NFL shock over New York office shooting: Coaches and players react

The NFL community reacted with grief after Monday's shooting at the league's offices at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan , where a gunman killed four people and wounded several others, including an NFL employee.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said the attacker, identified as Las Vegas native Shane Tamura , was trying to get to the league offices but took the wrong elevator and ended up opening fire in the lobby. Tamura had a history of mental illness and left a note alluding to chronic traumatic encephalopathy , a brain condition linked to head injuries.
Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that an NFL employee was seriously injured and is hospitalized in stable condition. In an internal memo, Goodell thanked authorities for their immediate response and highlighted the sacrifice of Officer Didarul Islam , who was working as an off-duty security guard and died while trying to protect others.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid echoed the sentiment: “There’s too much of this going on. We have to try to keep the peace.” Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson noted that these events provide perspective on life beyond football.
For his part, kicker Graham Gano , a union representative for the Giants, expressed his confidence in the club's security team, while Dee Haslam , co-owner of the Cleveland Browns , offered words of support to the families of the victims, flanked by her husband Jimmy Haslam during training camp.
NFL employees in New York were instructed to work remotely or take the day off while security at the facility was strengthened. Goodell concluded: “We will get through this together.”
