The Outlast Trials unveils its PvP mode with a chilling trailer

The psychological horror of The Outlast Trials is about to reach a new level. During IGN Fan Fest , studio Red Barrels officially unveiled Invasion Mode , a PvP mode that will allow players to face off against each other in an environment filled with tension, deception, and brutality.

This new mode will debut on October 21 , as part of Season 4 , and will mark the first time the Outlast saga introduces a player-to-player combat system, just in time for the Halloween season, an iconic date for horror fans.

Until now, The Outlast Trials has focused on a cooperative experience in which up to four players (the so-called Reagents ) must survive a series of psychological and physical experiments in a hostile environment controlled by the Murkoff Corporation. However, the new Invasion Mode completely changes the rules of the game.

In this mode, players can infiltrate other Reagents' Trials by posing as one of them. Their objective: to sabotage, betray, and eliminate their victims from within.

The trailer shown at IGN Fan Fest makes it clear that this new dynamic promises to raise the level of tension, paranoia, and violence that already distinguish the series. Between knives, skin masks, and dark hallways, mistrust will be the most dangerous enemy.

“We wanted the players to feel the fear not only of their surroundings, but also of their own teammates,” Red Barrels said during the presentation.

Invasion Mode will be available from terminals in the Sleep Room , the game's operations center. Upon entering, players will be able to choose between two main roles: Reagent or Imposter .

• Reagent : Continue the classic survival experience, trying to complete the Trial objectives while being wary of everyone.
• Imposter : An infiltrator player whose goal is to assassinate Reagents without being discovered, using disguises and melee attacks.

Only a limited number of Impostors can invade each Trial, but those left out can participate as Watchers , monitoring security cameras and providing information to their fellow Assassins.

Each Imposter will have a unique opportunity to attack , depending on the success or failure of their team, adding a layer of strategy and tension to each match.

Red Barrels shared some of the key features that define this new experience:

• Become the hunter : stalk your victims and eliminate your targets with stealth.
• Monitor the Evidence : Use security cameras to plan your attacks and anticipate enemy movements.
• Wear a deadly disguise : Confuse players by taking on the appearance of others, wearing outfits made of human skin.
• Aim for the back : Close combat is the only option; any mistake can be fatal.

This combination of deception, strategy, and direct combat transforms The Outlast Trials into a more unpredictable and dynamic psychological horror experience, where trust becomes a deadly trap.

The launch of Invasion Mode will be accompanied by new content within the game's Season 4. Notable new features include:

• Geister 2025 temporary event , featuring Halloween-themed challenges and rewards.
• New limited-time catalog with special cosmetic items and outfits.
• Two additional MK-Challenges : “Beguile the Children” and “Investigate the Minotaur” .
• New in-game shop , which will expand customization options for players.
