Sheinbaum announces multi-million dollar investment against breast cancer

MEXICO CITY (apro).- In the context of October, the month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented the new national strategy to combat this disease, which is currently the leading cause of death from cancer among women in Mexico.
In a social media post, the president explained that the strategy focuses on the Universal Breast Cancer Care Model, a program that seeks to guarantee free access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment throughout the country.
“October is the month to raise awareness about the importance of self-examination and early care. We are introducing the Universal Breast Cancer Care Model, which consists of free access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment for all women; the goal is to save lives,” Sheinbaum explained.

As part of this new public policy, the former head of government of Mexico City announced that an investment of 8 billion pesos will be allocated over the next two years.
The investment includes the opening of the first Women's Cancer Care Center in the nation's capital in December 2025, located on the former La Pastora Hospital.
The plan includes the acquisition of 1,000 mammograms and 1,000 ultrasounds, in addition to medical supplies and reagents, which will be distributed between 2026 and 2027 to strengthen early detection throughout the country.
At the same time, the model includes the construction of 20 Diagnostic Centers equipped with specialized imaging and pathology personnel responsible for interpreting studies, as well as the creation of 32 Hospital Oncology Care Units for Women, one in each state.
"We're going to establish a Women's Cancer Care Center in every state in the country. Not only will biopsies and analysis be available there, but patients can also receive early care to prevent a fatal outcome," the scientist said.
