Nintendo Switch 2 sells like wildfire, surpassing 6 million in just a few weeks

The mystery is now solved. After weeks of rumors and leaks, Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2 has sold over 6 million units in its first seven weeks, making it the best commercial debut for a console in the company's recent history .
What began as an estimated 3.5 million in just four days exploded when internal data was leaked. Today, with official figures in place, it's confirmed: Switch 2 is a global phenomenon .
Between April 1 and June 30, 2025, Nintendo shipped 5.82 million Switch 2 consoles to retailers worldwide. During that same period, 8.67 million video games compatible with the new system were sold.
The most successful title? Mario Kart: World , which has already sold 5.63 million copies (including physical and digital editions and bundles). This combination of hardware and software boosted Nintendo's revenue by 132% compared to the same quarter last year.
Although the original Nintendo Switch has begun to lose ground, it remains a force in the market. This past quarter, it sold 0.98 million units , bringing its all-time total to over 153 million , making it one of the most successful consoles of all time.
In terms of software, the platform has already sold more than 1.415 billion video games since its launch in 2017.
Nintendo isn't stopping. The plan is to expand the Switch 2 catalog with more exclusive titles and maintain support for current owners of the original Switch.
According to its financial report, "We intend to continue releasing new titles to the more than 100 million people around the world who play on Nintendo Switch," ensuring a seamless transition between generations .
Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed its participation in Gamescom 2025 , from August 20-24 in Cologne, Germany, where more major announcements are expected.
It all started with a simple slip of the tongue on Nintendo's official website. The leaked figure of 5 million consoles sold caused a stir. The company quickly corrected the figure, requesting that official figures be awaited. Today, we know the truth was even more shocking.
These kinds of moments are classic Nintendo moments: prolonged silences, well-calculated surprises, and figures that, once revealed, rewrite the gaming landscape. In a hyper-competitive market, Nintendo wins again with a blend of nostalgia, innovation, and surgical precision in its releases .
