Trump deploys two nuclear submarines in response to Medvedev's "provocative remarks"

US President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines on Friday in response to what he called "provocative statements" by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who warned of a possible war between the two countries.
"In response to the provocative statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, currently Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council, I have ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to the relevant regions , in case these senseless and incendiary statements go further," he declared on the Truth Social platform.
The Republican president added in his message: "Words are very important and can often have unintended consequences; I hope this isn't one of those cases."
Trump responded to Medvedev, who this week criticized the ultimatum the United States imposed on Russia to end the war in Ukraine and warned that it could lead to a conflict between the two countries.
"Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 or 10 days ... He should remember two things. First: Russia is neither Israel nor even Iran. And second: every new ultimatum is a step towards war . Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country," he wrote on his X account on Monday.
Trump, who has been expressing frustration for months over Russian President Vladimir Putin's refusal to halt the bombing in Ukraine, reduced to 10 days the deadline he set for Moscow to agree to a truce in the fighting.
In another Truth Social message this Friday, Trump claimed that nearly 20,000 Russian soldiers have died in the war this month, bringing the death toll so far this year to 112,500.
"Many unnecessary deaths! Ukraine, however, has also suffered greatly. It has lost approximately 8,000 soldiers since January 1, 2025, and that figure does not include those missing," he added.
The Republican noted that "this is a war that should never have happened" and again blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden. "I'm just here to see if I can stop it!" he concluded.
