Santos Cerdán resigns as a member of the PSOE

Former Socialist Organization Secretary Santos Cerdán voluntarily resigned from the PSOE on Monday, sources within the party confirmed to EFE.
The resigned Cerdán has voluntarily requested to leave the PSOE, while the Socialist party hopes that he will also hand in his seat as a member of parliament today, as he himself has announced.
The resignation was formalized while the Socialist Executive Committee was still in session, a meeting that has lasted almost two hours. During this meeting, it was decided to appoint a four-person team to take over Cerdán's duties on an interim basis until the next Federal Committee meeting on July 5.
If he had not filed for dismissal himself, the federal Executive Committee was expected to address the possibility of opening disciplinary proceedings against him at today's meeting, which would ultimately have had to be resolved by the Ethics and Guarantees Commission.
Cerdán has decided to leave the party after a report from the UCO (Union of the Workers' Union) came to light, indicating that he may have arranged commissions for former Socialist minister José Luis Ábalos and his former advisor Koldo García.
Until last week, the PSOE's number 3 decided to resign as Organization Secretary last Thursday and also announced that he would leave his seat in Congress, although he continues to maintain his innocence.
