Leonel Fernández is appointed Honorary Member in Spain

Former President Leonel Fernández was appointed Honorary Member of the Carlos III Foundation of Spain , the highest distinction awarded by this prestigious institution.
The appointment of Fernández, who currently heads the Fuerza del Pueblo party, "is a recognition of his career in promoting democracy , education , culture, and the development of the Ibero-American people."
The Madrid-based Carlos III Foundation highlighted Fernández's commitment to strengthening democracy , promoting international dialogue and creating spaces for critical thinking through the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development ( Funglode) , which he chairs.
"I receive with a deep sense of honor the news of having been appointed Honorary Member of the Carlos III Foundation of Spain . I sincerely value this recognition as an expression of appreciation for the work we have been doing at Funglode . My thanks to the president of the Foundation, Don Carlos Escudero de Buxón, and all the members of its Board of Trustees," Fernández expressed in a press release sent by his party.
The political organization said that during his visit to Spain , Fernández maintained an intense agenda of activities aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and the training of young Dominicans.
As part of the agenda, he met with executives from the Association of Spanish Foundations , led by Pilar García, Silverio Agea, and Carlos Álvarez Jiménez, with whom he exchanged ideas on the development and evolution of the foundation sector in Europe.
He also met with Óscar Arroyo Ortega, director of the National Library of Spain , to discuss strengthening the institution's cultural role and adapting to new technological challenges .
During his visit to Spain, Fernández signed a cooperation agreement with the Center for Political and Constitutional Studies of Spain (CEPC), directed by Rosario García, aimed at promoting research , training, and academic exchange on governance and the rule of law.
Likewise, among other activities, he signed an agreement with the IEB University Center for Higher Education , aimed at training young Dominicans in finance and stock markets. "At Funglode, we continue to open doors to our youth," he emphasized.
Other activities
The recognition in Spain follows activities previously held in France, where Fernández led the international colloquium commemorating the 60th anniversary of the April Revolution of 1965 and inaugurated a photographic exhibition on this historic event at the Maison de l'Amérique Latine in Paris.
In both France and Spain , Fernández has held meetings with leaders of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, which he leads, thus strengthening ties with the Dominican diaspora .
