Danilo assures that the PLD is competing for first place

Former President Danilo Medina , president of the Dominican Liberation Party ( PLD ), stated yesterday that the party he leads is already competing for first place in the political polls, despite being placed third after the last 2024 elections.

After the presidential and congressional elections in May 2024, where the Modern Revolutionary Party ( PRM ) came in first place, the PLD was relegated to third place and its position as the second most powerful party in the country was taken by the People's Force .

Even so, a little over a year after the election results, Medina asserted during a political assembly in Puerto Plata that the PLD is fighting for first place on the political list because, as he said, "people are starting to recognize that they made a mistake."

"These assemblies we're holding across the country serve to confirm what's being felt across the country. The enthusiasm for this meeting is what can be heard in the streets of Puerto Plata and across the country: that life was better under the PLD ," Medina said during the meeting.

The former president expressed that "the euphoria " of the assembly in Puerto Plata demonstrates "that people understood that they made a mistake in 2020 and made it again in 2024," so he expressed hope that the PLD will win the 2028 elections.

The Chamber of Deputies issued an unfavorable report on bills seeking to regulate independent candidacies , and consequently, non-partisan aspirations were buried in Congress . The unfavorable document was signed by PLD legislators.

However, when asked about the issue, Medina noted that the PLD has formally endorsed the legislative proposal on independent candidates and emphasized that the party "has no objection" to the topic, as long as clear rules are established.
